Before you run out of patience and destroy your device, take a look at the following steps that you can make on your own without seeking the help of a technical support.

• Determine the root of the problem

1. The first thing that you have to do if you want to fix the issue with your slow laptop is to determine what is causing the problem.
2. There are several reasons why a laptop may run slow.
3. It could be because you have installed too many programs and software that it has already a low memory space.
4. Or, there is a Windows Registry failure, problems with the hard drive and processor speed.
5. Also, it could be due to ad-ware, virus, or spy-ware..

• Uninstall unnecessary software

1. You have to remember when exactly did your computer start slowing down.
2. Is it just after you purchased it or when you have installed some software?
3. If the problem occurred ever since you bought it, then probably the laptop that you got can’t really meet your speed expectations.
4. However, if it just slowed down when you started installing some programs, you need to find the software that you are not using anymore and uninstall them.

• Get rid of unnecessary files

1. Check all your folders and look for the files that you no longer need and get rid of them.
2. Also, you have to regularly empty the recycle bin for all of these can affect the speed of your laptop.
3. Another way is to clean the contents of the prefetch folder as well as temp folder.

• Disable unnecessary startup programs

1. To disable some startup programs that are not necessary, click on START and go to RUN.
2. Type MSCONFIG in the dialogue box and hit ENTER. This will initiate system configuration windows to open.
3. Click on the startup tab, identify the startup programs that are not necessary and deselected them.
4. After that, restart your computer and determine if there is a change in the speed.

• Run an anti-virus software

If you think that your laptop is affected by a virus, spy-ware, or ad-ware, running an anti-virus software will help fix the problem.

After doing all the things that were mentioned above and your laptop is still slow, you need to seek the help of a computer expert so you will be able to do further troubleshooting.
